Karen Deans answers a few of your questions.
What's a Wooden Tile?
Something beautiful to hang on your wall or place as standalone art on a desktop or table. Like a painting or quilt, only more fun. They're easy to hang with a simple, small nail. Viola! That bare, lonely wall has been transformed into a declaration of joy. That was easy!
How are they created?
My designs are inspired by the things I see and love: flowers, vintage textiles, the way light plays with shadow and tone. Each Wooden Tile begins as an original oil painting on wood panel. Then, after the paint dries, the painting is scanned and reproduced using an Indigo press onto Strathmore watercolor paper. That image is then mounted onto a wooden frame with painted sides. Then it's all varnished twice. That's a lot of steps, done by hand in my studio. Each Wooden Tile design is produced in limited print runs of 100. Then I hand sign and number each one.
Where can I buy them?
Right here on woodentile.com. Thousands have been sold in home design boutiques and galleries across the country, but our new online store is really convenient. And we have excellent customer service, too. Got a question or need decorating advice? Please don't hesitate to call or email us. We're here to be helpful to you.
There are so many designs to choose from. How will I ever decide?
With more than 120 Wooden Tile designs to choose from, selecting your own is half the fun. Just go to Interactive Tiles. Drag the designs that catch your eye onto the color box. Play with them. Imagine which ones will work best with your decor, your wall space, your personality. I recommend cutting out squares of paper in standard sizes (6", 8", 16") and, with masking tape, tack the squares on the wall. Move them around until you like what you see. Then head to the woodentile.com store.
What other products does Wooden Tile sell?
Stationery, pendants, and matted prints that come in standard sizes for easy framing. I also offer custom design work.
What's the best thing about Wooden Tile?
For me, the best thing is the joy my work brings to people. Customers come back to me years later and tell me they look at their Wooden Tiles every day and smile. And that makes me smile!
